If you’ve seen the movie Sarah’s Key, you’ll surely want to read the book, which is our January selection, so that you can compare the two.  The story revolves around the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup, which occurred in Paris in July of 1942.  Sarah, a ten year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family's apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours.

Sixty years later American journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article about this black day in France's past. Through her contemporary investigation, she stumbles onto a trail of long-hidden family secrets that connect her to Sarah and compel her to retrace the girl's ordeal. As she probes into Sarah's past, Julia begins to question her own place in France and to reevaluate her marriage and her life.

Discussions take place on the fourth Monday of every month except July and December at 7:00 PM in the church library.  The May meeting is changed to the 21st because of the Memorial Day holiday.  Everyone is invited to attend as often as desired, and guests are always welcome.  Come and find out for yourself why this is a great way to read books that otherwise might not catch your attention.  The complete schedule for 2012 is listed below.

*Note that the February selection, Twenty Wishes, is part of Debbie Macomber’s   Blossom Street series.  In some collections it is listed as #4 and in others as #5 in the series.
