Sharing Christ's Love with Our Community & Beyond! |
 | | | | | | This Month's Local Benevolence: | |
From the Outreach Team The monthly benevolence distribution for September will be to the Lutherbrook Child and Adolescent Center at 329 W. Lake Street, Addison, IL. Lutherbrook is part of the Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois in River Forest, Illinois. Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS) is a social services agency serving children and families of all faiths, races and ethnic backgrounds. Their Mission statement: In response to Christ's love, Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois attracts, develops, mobilizes and provides resources to improve the well-being of children, individuals, families, congregations and communities so that their lives are improved. Their Vision statement: We envision a world where the power of the Gospel is engaged in improving the well-being of children, individuals, families and communities. LCFS traces its roots to 1873 when several Lutheran churches in northern Illinois established the German Evangelical Lutheran Orphan Home in Addison, Ill. Opening its doors that year to six young children, the orphan home grew quickly and expanded its services over the years. The goal of treatment for each Lutherbrook client is to resume family and community living as soon as possible. This is accomplished by helping children grow in self-esteem, self-awareness and their capacity to form meaningful relationships. Residential treatment is designed to meet the individual needs of the residents. Treatment programs utilize individual, group and family therapy, as well as a highly structured behavior modification program. Lutherbrook Academy is a new therapeutic day school located on the grounds of the Lutherbrook Child and Adolescent Center. The school is designed to give individualized, integrated academic and clinical programs for children with severe disabilities, serving children from kindergarten through high school. Many events are held over the year to raise funds for programs, including Golf “Fore” Kids, Bowl-A-Rama, and a Lutherbrook Guild Breakfast. To make a donation, call (708) 488-5555 or visit the website at www.lcfs.org. You will be able to view extensive wish lists, and ways you can help the well being of children with special needs. Wish lists include: board games, craft kits, athletic equipment, puzzles, art supplies, dishes, pots and pans, bean bag chairs, bikes, fishing poles and tackle boxes, and the list goes on and on. Please visit www.lcfs.org.
MANY THANKS to all who helped in any way with Prince of Peace’s 15 years of Outreach to the homeless in our community. |

CASA of DuPage County, Inc. CASA volunteers are Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. Citizen volunteers are recruited, screened, trained and supported by CASA staff. Once trained, volunteer advocates are assigned to monitor a child's case resulting from a formal court order through its duration. CASA advocates voluntarily examine and investigate children's cases and report their findings to juvenile court judges. They provide information about such things as educational neglect, an inadequate foster placement, increased stress in a family situation, research about a child’s medical ailment, or a need for glasses. This knowledge serves to better inform judges who are then able to make knowledgeable and educated dispositions about each child's placement and treatment needs. CASA of DuPage County, Inc. is located at 505 N. County Farm Road, 3rd Floor, Suite C, Wheaton, IL 60187. More information can be found on their website, or by calling 630-221-0889 x306.
